Apparently, the drivers on most new laptops just plain won't work on XP anymore, or else I would do exactly what you suggest. For now I'll just have to keep downloading Microsoft's "fixes," most of which only serve to further idiot-proof the machine. Or get Linux. I might just get Linux.
